The Little Hobby Group has 20 members who are friends and have fun in class. We usually have between six and 12 women participating in each class. Some members learned how to follow a pattern to knit or crochet a hat, scarf or baby jacket. Other members learned how to knit beautiful 3 dimensional scarves.
Our highlights for the year were:
- Building our own heritage teddy bears from scratch—we went on an excursion in the Springvale Neighbourhood House bus to Tooradin Teddy Bear shop to choose the mohair fabric; over the term we cut and hand sewed the parts and marveled at our finished products.
- Making craft items to sell at the SnowFest in Springvale and selling the items to raise money for the Timor Earthquake appeal.
- Learning how to decorate cakes with decorative icing.
- Making floral decorations using egg cartons.—it was amazing how many different types of flowers we made using our imagination.
We also enjoyed wearing our national dress on stage at the International Dress Parade in Dandenong. Next year, we hope to raise more money for charity by selling our craft items at the SnowFest in Springvale.
